Nyctemera lacticinia Cramer; Roepke, 1957: 164.

Diagnosis

The hindwing border has an interior angle at vein CuA2 as in latistriga and baulus. The forewing has the postmedial white band somewhat broken by brown along the veins; basally white markings are restricted to a distinctive wedge along the dorsum.

Geographical range

Japan, Oriental tropics to Taiwan, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.

Habitat preference

No recent material has been seen, but material in the BMNH is from G. Kinabalu, G. Mulu and G. Marapok, suggesting a preference for montane localities.

Biology

The species has been recorded from Santalum (Santalaceae) in India (Browne, 1968). Moore (1882-3) described the larva as dull red with three rows of verrucae with black hair on each side; his illustration shows hair pencils directed forward from the thoracic area. The larva is illustrated on a plant of the Compositae. The pupa is also dull red.
