Microcalicha punctimarginaria Leech comb. n.
Boarmia punctimarginaria Leech, 1897, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (8), 19: 422.
Boarmia subpictilis Prout, 1932, Novit. zool. 38: 115, possible synonym.
Diagnosis
This is a small dull, dark brown species with fasciation only weakly evident. It is distinguished by a submarginal row of white dots on both wings, that in the space posterior to vein M3 are more prominent than the rest.
Taxonomic Notes
Association with Microcalicha is based on genitalic characters rather than external ones: in the male, the cucullus almost spans the entire width of the valve; there is a basal central process as in M. sordida but broader and more densely and finely setose; the female genitalia are typical of the genus. The original description of subpictilis from Borneo appears to be of punctimarginaria, mentioning the submarginal white dots, but the size given seems large. The type material in the Hamburg Museum was probably destroyed during the war.
Geographical Range
China, Borneo, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia.
Habitat Preference
All material seen is from lowland forest, but the species is rare.
