Diagnosis

This small dark brown species could be confused with Lophobates mesotoechia Prout, but has pale fawn and brown patches subapically at the costa of the forewing between the postmedial and submarginal, and tornally on the hindwing. Both wings have a submarginal row of pale fawn lunules.

Geographical Range

N.E. Himalaya; Borneo, Sumatra.

Habitat Preference

All records are from G. Kinabalu where the species is infrequent between 1500m and 1930m.

Biology

The larva was described by Singh (1953) with much detail on chaetotaxy. The body is almost cylindrical, the skin finely and closely granulate. The setae are short, stiff, set on dark dots. The description was based on specimens preserved in alcohol, so the colour was not recorded. The host plants recorded were Elaeodendron (Celastraceae) and Ehretia (Boraginaceae).
