Diagnosis
Both this and the next species have a distinct central angle to the forewing margin. The ground colour is medium grey as in H. talaca Walker, but shaded with black speckling. The hindwing postmedial is lined distally with white; that of the forewing is finely white, angled subcostally and somewhat broadened at the costa. The forewing discal mark is a black dash or chevron. The two species are distinguished from each other in the description of the next.
Taxonomic Notes
In Sumatra there also appears to be a distinct species flying at higher altitude, but with genitalia (slide 16285) showing differences from those of violescens.
Geographical Range
N.E. Himalaya, N. Vietnam, N. Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo. (The Sulawesi record in Holloway (1976) refers to a dark specimen of a new species of the infixaria group).
Habitat Preference
The species is infrequent in lowland forest, and has also been recorded singly in lower montane forest on G. Mulu (1000m) and G. Api (900).
