Hyposidra altiviolescens Holloway sp. n.
Hyposidra violescens Hampson sensu Holloway, 1976: 75.
♂♂ 22-23mm, much larger than violescens (16-17mm), and usually darker. The forewing discal spot, especially on the underside, is more distinctly angled chevron-like. The margins of both wings are more angled and irregular, the forewings more falcate, especially in specimens from G. Kinabalu. In these the pattern is more variegated, browner, the yellowish white markings more evident, including a subapical fleck at the angle of the forewing postmedial. Given these constant differences, the Kinabalu race is distinguished as H. a. apicipuncta ssp. n. from the typical race from G. Mulu and mountains in neighbouring Brunei. The male genitalia are larger than those of violescens but not otherwise distinguished.
