Diagnosis and taxonomic note

This species is similar to scintillans except the central third of the forewing is very pale grey to just submarginally, and the rest of the wing is dark grey as illustrated. The underside is similar. The hindwing in the Bornean specimen is dark grey around the costal and distal margins, with the rest of the wing a bluish grey as in scintillans. In the two named species, the hindwing is longitudinally banded pale and dark grey as on the underside of the Bornean specimen. The underside of the forewing resembles the upperside, except the grey areas are not so dark. The genitalia (slide 2010) are described in the tribal account. The holotype of albicruciata (Plate 8) and the male genitalia of argiolina (Fig 29) are illustrated below:

Geographical range

Sumatra (argiolina); Peninsular Malaysia (albicruciata); Borneo.

Habitat preference

The only Bornean specimen, a female, was taken at 140m in hill dipterocarp forest at the foot of G. Mulu in Sarawak.
