Diagnosis and taxonomic notes

The holotype is female, a dark brownish grey with strongly excavate forewing margins either side of the angle.

The fasciation of the forewing meanders parallel to the margin, with the darkest grey band recurring in a distal postmedial position and being slightly more emphatic towards the costa.

A possible male (slide 2112) is a similar grey, with darker postmedial marks in a similar position on the forewing.

The genitalia have a short saccus and a rugose, knobbed apex to the gnathus.

These features are shared by the specimens tentatively identified as turbinifera Warren, and also species A and B. All may in fact be one rather variable species.

Geographical range

Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia.

Habitat preference

This is a lowland species, with two females taken recently in heath and coastal forests in Brunei.

The male is from wet heath forest to the west of the Melinau Gorge in Sarawak.

Biology

Specimens referable to kerara and its variations (see above) have been reared from the palms Daemonorops grandis and Orania silvicola in Peninsular Malaysia by H. Steiner.
