Bertula nigra Swinhoe

Bertula nigra Swinhoe, 1902, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (7), 9: 177.

Diagnosis

The characteristics of the male labial palps, forelegs and hindwing margin are as in alpheusalis, but the forewing is various shades of dark grey and black, with the fasciation distinctly irregular compared with that of alpheusalis. Females are similar, though have the medial band slightly broader and variably lightened with medium to pale brown.

Taxonomic note

The male genitalia are very similar to those of alpheusalis, having a rather rectangular valve with a short process at the ventral distal corner. The aedeagus vesica has a massive clawed structure directed basad just distal to the apex of the aedeagus.
