Azata subcinerea Warren, 1896, Novit. Zool., 3:139
Semiothisa atmala smedleyi Prout, 1931, Novit. Zool., 37: 15
Diagnosis
♂♂ 12-14mm. Externally this subspecies is distinguished from others by the lenticular, obscure, yellowish zone at the forewing costa between the medial and the apex. In the male genitalia the valve is narrower than in the typical subspecies and the costal process stops well short of the ventral margin rather than extending beyond it (smedleyi is intermediate). Other diagnostic features are the square apical portion to the gnathus, and a large spine-like cornutus in the aedeagus vesica rather than a sclerotised band with a lateral thorn or angle.
