Prosopandrophila Hering

Genus Details

Type species: distincta Guérin-Méneville.

This genus, if strictly defined in Clade 15 as indicated by Yen et al. (2005), contains the type species, xanthina Jordan (Cambodia) and yoshimotoi Kishida & Endo (Palawan). P. mirifica Swinhoe (Thailand) was placed in the much more basal Clade 9 in a sister-relationship to the Bornean Pidorasbifasciata. The facies of typical members of the genus shows strong sexual dimorphism as described below. The male abdomen is typical of the more distal clades, having a particularly strongly modified and enlarged eighth sternite. The valves of the genitalia are unequally bilobed as illustrated.
