Thalassodes viridifascia Swinhoe
Thalassodes viridifascia Swinhoe, 1908, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (8), 1: 66.
Thalassodes viridifascia Swinhoe; Holloway, 1976: 62.
Diagnosis
This species is immediately recognisable by the strong, but diffuse, green and white barring to the wings.
Taxonomic Notes
A similar taxon from Sulawesi, (slide 17561) and Seram is probably best treated as a subspecies of viridifascia. The male genitalia are very similar, but the Sulawesi species dissected has a single, rather than multiply spined distal spur, and squarer, less marginally serrate basal sclerotisation to the valve.
Inoue (2006) recorded T. viridifascia from the Philippines but suggested that material from Seram and Sulawesi, associated with viridifascia in Part 9, represented a separate species.
Geographical range
Borneo; Sulawesi, Seram.
Habitat preference
The species is very rare, known from G. Kinabalu only.
A single female was taken at 1050m at Kundasan in 1965 (Holloway, 1976).
