Thalassodes depulsata Walker
Thalassodes depulsata Walker, 1861, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 22: 555.
Diagnosis
This and the next species are best distinguished by the male genitalia. The ground colour of the wings is uniform, the fasciae faint, the red marginal marks moderately developed. In the male genitalia both species are distinguished by the modification of the spur at the distal end of the oblique structure into a broad scobinate flap. In depulsata the sacculus is expanded ventrally by an arcuate, scobinate ridge, and the flap just mentioned is very broad. The spine associated with the transtilla is small, directed inwards. The eighth sternite is marginally thickened, with a central, circular notch.
Geographical Range
Sulawesi, Borneo.
Habitat Preference
The species is rare in Borneo, with three specimens recorded during the Mulu survey from lowland alluvial forest.
Biology
Yunus & Ho (1980) attributed host records to this name, but the species has to be confirmed to be present in Peninsular Malaysia. The host plants listed were Mangifera (Anacardiaceae), Eugenia (Myrtaceae) and Nephelium (Sapindaceae).
