Diagnosis
Both sexes have a strong central protrusion to the forewing costa and a black edge to it basal to the protrusion. In the male there is a black comma-like mark just interior to the protrusion, whereas the female, with a darker, greyer ground, lacks this and has the dorsum lined narrowly with blackish brown. The male hindwing is pale straw colour with a distinctive darker greyish border, whereas the female hindwing is a uniform greyish colour. See also the next species.

Habitat Preference
The species is most commonly encountered in the lower montane zone at around 1000m, but is also found rarely in the lowlands and up to around 1700m.
Biology
Sevastopulo (1940) stated the larva feeds on mosses in India.
