Diagnosis

The species has been distinguished from ferrifera above; an additional feature is a diffuse pale band, more intense towards the tornus, within the hindwing border.

The polymorphism includes arcuate (no.4) and barred (no. 3) forms as for ferrifera, but also forms with an oblique pale band distal to the medial and including the reniform (no. 2) and ones with pale ground, two basal black streaks, and the postmedial and costa subapically also dark (no. 1). The typical uniform form is not illustrated.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The species appears restricted to upper montane forest.

It ranges from 1000-2600m on G. Kinabalu, being common from 1500-2000m. During the Mulu survey it was taken infrequently in upper montane forest on G. Mulu.

It is also known from Bukit Pagon in Brunei and G. Penrissen in Sarawak.
