Diagnosis
This is the largest Bornean species, the reddish brown of the forewings relatively pale.
The yellow zone is constrained by a gently curved border, concave distad, running from the centre of the dorsum to the distal margin just short of the apex; it is crossed by reddish brown squiggles, with a more dense band subbasally.
The hindwings are white with a broad, pale red-brown border.
The male has a central swelling to the forewing costa, marked by a tuft of hair on the upperside.
Geographical range
Himalaya, S.E. Asia, China, Japan, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference
Three specimens have been taken in recent surveys, all from montane forest; 1500m on the limestone G. Api, Sarawak; 1465m on Bukit Retak, Brunei; 1760m on G. Kinabalu.
These are probably all in the upper montane zone.
