Diagnosis

The forewings are paler than in nubes, the margin more angled in the male (sexual dimorphism is not so extreme). There is an angled, dark postmedial fascia that is roughly parallel to the margin, and an oblique antemedial one.

Females have a pale discal spot.

Taxonomic Notes

Subspecies striatura, known only from males, has a less angular forewing margin and is smaller.

Geographical range

Sundaland, Thailand, Andamans, N.E. Himalaya; Sri Lanka (ssp. striatura).

Habitat preference

The species is less frequent than nubes but occurs in similar lowland forest habitats, and was much more strongly concentrated in alluvial forest samples of the Mulu survey.
