Diagnosis

See the generic description. This is a variable species, with the ground colour of the wings varying from pale pinkish fawn to dove grey. The triangle on the costa between the forewing postmedial and submarginal is always strong, but that just basal to the two discal dots is more obscure, stronger only in specimens where the medial is distinctly darkened. This medial is straight, angled subcostally on the forewing and is continued by a fascia on the hindwing.

Taxonomic note

The status of material with similar facies from further east (e.g. New Guinea, Solomons) requires clarification. Edwards in Nielsen et al. (1996) listed the Australian taxon as pallida Turner but also indicated the need for further study.

Geographical range

Sri Lanka, N.E. Himalaya, Taiwan, Japan, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.

Habitat preference

Five specimens have been recorded from Borneo, all from lowland forest, some with disturbance. Two of these are vouchers for 10 taken entirely in pristine lowland forest near the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah (S.J. Willott, unpublished).
