Platyja sumatrana Felder
Ophisma sumatrana Felder, 1874, Reise öst. Fregatte Novara, Lep. Het.: pl. 116, f. 5.
Platyja sumatrana magnimargo Holloway, 1976: 34.
Diagnosis and taxonomic note
The wings are very dark brown, edged narrowly with creamy white margins that are broader in females. Examination of Bornean males and females from elsewhere has confirmed that this difference in marginal width is sexual dimorphism rather than having a geographical basis as suggested by Holloway (1976), hence magnimargo should not be attributed subspecific status.
Geographical range
Sumatra, Singapore, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.
Habitat preference
The only three Bornean specimens seen are from 1620m on G. Kinabalu, from 1465m on Bukit Retak and from lowland forest at 170m near the Danum Valley Field Centre; material from the other Sundaland localities is mostly from the lowlands.
