Diagnosis.

P. chlora* has a much paler facies than most congeners except P. subpurpurea Warren.

The latter is slightly smaller, has a greenish tinge and much broader black borders with a violet tinge on the underside: P. chlora has narrow borders and forewing discal bar, and is without extensive yellow at the wing bases.

Taxonomic Notes

Holloway (1982) reviewed the P. chlora complex and established the geographical limits of chlora.

Geographical range

Sundaland, Philippines, Sulawesi, Moluccas to Queensland.

Habitat preference

Of all Bornean species this is the one that appears to be most specifically associated with disturbed or cultivated areas, being taken in numbers in vegetable-growing areas at around 1000m on G. Kinabalu (Holloway, 1976).

Biology

In Australia the species has been reared from Euroschinus (Anacardiaceae) leaves (McFarland, 1979) and from Flindersia (Rutaceae) (Common, 1990). Bell (MS) reared an Indian member of the complex on Buchanania (Anacardiaceae) flowers.
