Peratophyga sobrina Prout
Xenostega sobrina Prout, 1932, J. fed. Malay States Mus., 17: 81.
Peratophyga sobrina Prout; Holloway, 1976: 84.
Diagnosis
This is the largest species in the genus. The extensive bluish grey shading to the wings almost completely obscures the pale yellow transverse bands which are evident as a faint, diffuse irroration, concentrated somewhat at the dark sagittate marks of the postmedials.
Taxonomic Notes
The ear-like structures of the uncus shows some variation in size and form (illustrated). Those variations may prove to show some constancy within the localised populations into which this species is fragmented. Lowland specimens tend to have the ‘ears’ slightly larger, more produced apically to well beyond the uncus. One of two Kinabalu specimens dissected had them unusually broad.
Geographical Range
Borneo; specimens from Peninsular Malaysia (FRIM collection) may also be this species but identity should be confirmed by dissection.
Habitat Preference
The species in infrequent in the upper montane forest zone of G. Kinabalu, G. Mulu and Bukit Retak. It also occurs in lowland heath and swamp forest habitats; wet kerangas near the Melinau Gorge N. Sarawak; dry kerangas at Telisai, Brunei; swamp forest at Badas, Brunei.
