Nagadeba geminipuncta Hampson comb. n.

Diagnosis

This is a small species with somewhat oval wings, yet with dentate, and angular distal margins. Fasciation is weak, fine, and the forewing reniform is bipunctate. It is more uniform, less strikingly fasciated than in celenoalis and lacks the sexual dimorphism of that species. It is a pale pinkish brown rather than the greenish brown of Margana species, and lacks the diagnostic facies features of Microselene.

Taxonomic Notes

Combination with with Nagadeba (rather than Margana) is tentative, based mostly on the extension of the ostium and anterior of the eighth segment well into the seventh sternite in the female genitalia (as in Margana) but in combination with deeper forewings, and hindwings that are relatively greater in area, features shared with celenoalis.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The holotype was collected by A.R. Wallace in Sarawak. There is a second specimen from Pulo Laut, a third from logged lowland forest at the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah. A fourth was recorded from a lowland Pinus caribaea plantation near Brumas in Sabah. This is probably a lowland species.
