Micromorphe oculata Toxopeus comb. n.

Xanthonygmia oculata Toxopeus, 1948, Treubia, 19: 478.

Diagnosis

Both sexes are very much paler than those of linta, the male resembling a small female linta, and the female having both wings yellow except for the subapical spot of the forewing.

Taxonomic note

The holotype may well be lost along with those of other Toxopeus Lymantriidae, but the specimen illustrated fits the description exactly in venation and facies. The male, with genitalia similar to those of linta, is associated tentatively by a process of elimination!

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The original material was from the lowlands of E. Kalimantan. The male illustrated was from about 600m in the Poring area south east of G. Kinabalu. Three females have been taken in Brunei: in secondary vegetation on the coast at Seria; at 200m in forest at Rampayoh; one without data.
