Diagnosis
This and the next species have similar facies, particularly the rather linear forewing postmedial with a subcostal angle and zig-zag.
H
sommereri** is paler, marked with a richer brown; on the underside the veins are picked out darker in a zone anterior and distal to the forewing discal spot. In the male genitalia the valve of sommereri lacks a subcostal band of spines.
Taxonomic Notes
The Himalayan H. ratotaria Swinhoe stat. rev. was listed as a synonym of transcissaby Sato (1990 b, 1991). Dissection of the type material indicates the taxon to be distinct.
Geographical Range
Indian subregion to Sundaland.
Habitat Preference
This is one of the rarest Bornean species, the few records being all from lowland forests that have experienced some degree of human disturbance.
Biology
There is a record of this species having Aleurites (Euphorbiaceae) as a host plant in Peninsular Malaysia (Corbett, 1929, Malayan agric. J., 8: 266).
