Diagnosis

The species comes in two forms: with and without arrays of white spots delineating the forewing stigmata, distal margin and the subbasal, antemedial and postmedial fasciae. Constant features distinguishing fenella from congeners are: a wedge of paler brown at one third from the forewing costa between the margin and the postmedial; extensive and continuous dull pale ochreous marginal zone over the anterior half of the hindwing (deeper than in Sypna rholatinum().

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

An infrequent montane species, fenella has been recorded from around 1780m on G. Mulu, 1670m on Bukit Pagon in Brunei, and from 1775m on Bukit Monkobo and 1620m and 1930m on G. Kinabalu in Sabah.
