Image of Hypersypnoides borneensis Kobes ♂

Hypersypnoides borneensis Kobes

Hypersypnoides ochreicilia var. borneensis Berio in Berio & Fletcher, 1958: 368.

Hypersypnoides (Othresypna) borneensis Kobes, 1985: 75.

Diagnosis

See the previous species. The pale discal spot of the forewing is particularly pronounced, as is the yellow-orange margin around the apical part of the hindwing. The underside is strongly contrasted, with the medial band of the forewing distinctly angled subcostally in two of the three specimens. The male genitalia are very similar to those of ochreicilia (S. India; Sikkim, Assam in error by Holloway (1976)) except the valve is more singular and apically produced, and the flange is more prominent, distinctly triangular. The aedeagus vesica is small but with more groups of spines than in ochreicilia.

Taxonomic note

The name borneensis remained infrasubspecific (therefore not recorded by Poole, 1989) until treated in a specific context by Kobes (1985). The type material is as listed in Berio & Fletcher (1958).

Geographical range

Borneo, Sumatra.

Habitat preference

Records are restricted to two specimens from 1620m on G Kinabalu and one from 1500m in an open area of low scrub and Pandanus on the limestone G. Api.
