Diagnosis

This species is like a smaller, darker, redder orange version of lassula (see under crocea), the red tone due to more pinkish bands medially and submarginally. As in lassula, there are strong, straight, but diffuse medial bands that are more conspicuous than other fasciae.

Geographical range

Sri Lanka, India, Burma, Singapore, Borneo, Sulawesi.

Habitat preference

One specimen was recorded at 900m in stunted hill forest on Bukit Monkobo, Sabah.

Biology

Bell (MS) reared the larva in India. It is typical of the genus. He noted that the pupa had a powdery bloom. The host plants (see also Robinson et al., 2001) were Terminalia (Combretaceae), Derris (Leguminosae), Artocarpus (Moraceae) and Flindersia (Rutaceae).
