Holcocerus chloratoides Holloway sp. n.

♂17mm, ?♀ 19mm. This species is similar to chloratus in forewing facies but a more reddish brown colour with finer, less definite striae and a slightly darker medial block. The putative female is. reddish brown basal to the sharply defined postmedial and paler narrowly distal to it; there is a palerspot with a darker zone just adjacent distally at the disc. In chloratus and javanus the female forewing is extensively blackened basal to the postmedial and there is a pale patch at one third on the costa. The male genitalia have a diagnostic semicircular flange subapically on the valve. The male antennae are filiform rather than uniserrate/pectinate.

SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped., 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 8, February, Camp 1, Mulu, 150m, 385470, mixed dipt. for., BM cossid slide 81.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The two specimens are from the lowlands of Sarawak, the male from hill dipterocarp forest on G. Mulu.
