♂ (holotype)

Hepatica orbicularis Holloway sp. n.

Diagnosis

♂♂ 13mm. The general facies is as in doda, but the forewings are slightly darker, browner. The orbicular stigma is very much larger than the reniform (smaller in doda), pale, and also evident on the underside. The submarginal is a prominent but irregular dark zig-zag more distant from the double postmedial than in doda, but the tornal dark marks of doda are absent. In the genitalia the uncus is shorter, the juxta more complex with a pair of outward-facing pockets. The valves have a longer, straighter central process and, near the base of the ventral margin, a short, tongue-like process. The aedeagus is very much narrower, the vesica much smaller. H. ornata Yoshimoto (2002) from the Philippines (Mindanao) has a somewhat similar forewing upperside, but the hindwings are pale with dark suffusion distal to the postmedial line. The male genitalia have a more curved distal process to the valve and lack a basal process on the ventral margin.
