Diagnosis
The strong, angled fasciae on both wings, almost black on pale brownish grey, are distinctive. Post-and antemedials are present on both wings and there is a complete submarginal band on the hindwing (broken into patches on the forewing)
Eupithecia costalis* has much finer fasciae, and the postmedials are biangular. See Gymnoscelis prouti sp. n.
Taxonomic Notes
Warren (Seram, New Guinea, Solomons) is placed as a synonym of fasciata in the BMNH arrangement but has distinct female genitalia, lacking the comb of slender spines across the ostium of fasciata, and is best treated as a good species.
Geographical Range
India, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Philippines, Sulawesi.
Habitat Preference
Two specimens have been taken at 1200m near Bundu Tuhan on the slopes of G. Kinabalu in an area with cultivation and forest fragments.
