Diagnosis

The large, rather trapezoid subbasal white area of the forewing is distinctive, though a similar mark is seen in females of the larger and browner Beana terminigera.

Taxonomic Notes

In addition to the distinctive facies, the male genitalia have a long, rather angular tegumen, and the black-scaled processes of the valve are club-like, the scales restricted to the apex.

Tymbal organs are lacking.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, Borneo, Bali, Sulawesi.

Habitat preference

The two specimens taken in recent surveys were both from lowland forest: at Ulu Dusun 30 miles west of Sandakan in Sabah; at 250m on the slopes of the limestone G. Api taken during the Mulu survey.
