Diagnosis

This and the next species have a very similar Characoma type of forewing pattern, distinguished by a double black subbasal band extending from the costa two-thirds of the way to the dorsum.

In rotundipennis the submarginal is irregularly punctate rather than entire.

Taxonomic Notes

See G. scoparioides above; the identity of rotundipennis has now been established by examination of the holotype (UM, Oxford) as conspecific with basisuffusa rather than with rufipuncta as in Poole (1989). Another closely related species is G. curiosa Swinhoe comb. n. (Burma and N.E. Himalaya, Java, Sulawesi, New Guinea, Australia) which has more violet grey forewings with a distinctly darker basal zone and a dark apical patch; the hindwings are whiter basally.

Its wide range suggests it may be found in Borneo also.

Geographical range

Borneo, Java, New Guinea.

Habitat preference

This is an uncommon species found in montane zones from 1000m to 1930m.
