Eucormopsis lampra Jordan
Eucormopsis lampra Jordan, 1907, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 10: 22.
Eucormopsis lampra baluensis Hering, 1922, Arch. Naturgesch., 88A (11): 39.
Diagnosis
The male is similar to some Cyclosia males, having an iridescent blue hindwing and a black forewing with three subapical pale spots and an obscure pale band medially that arches from the dorsum near the tornus to just basal to the centre of the costa. The female is relatively larger and the hindwings are a paler blue, but it is otherwise similar to the male. On the underside, the forewing pale marks are clearly expressed in pale turquoise. This colour extends over most of the hindwing except for a few black patches near the costa and apex.
Taxonomic note
No really distinctive features could be located in the limited material available to justify separation of ssp. baluensis.
Geographical range
Java, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia (Barlow colln); Borneo (ssp. baluensis).
Habitat preference
Only old material from Borneo has been seen, lacking precise habitat data. It may be a montane species, and certainly occurs at 1000m in Peninsular Malaysia (H.S. Barlow, pers. comm.).
