Eterusia angustipennis Röber
Heterusia angustipennis Röber, 1897, Ent. Nachr. Berlin, 23: 6.
Soritia gaedei Hering, 1922, Arch. Naturgesch., 88A (11): 56.
Diagnosis
Only females are known, and these resemble those of risa except they are slightly smaller, the forewings are narrower with the pale band in a relatively more basal position, and the apical black area of the hindwings is slightly narrower. The forewing underside has a narrower, more distal submarginal band that is blue, lacking the broader greenish component that is usually present in risa.
Geographical range
Borneo, Sumatra (ssp. gaedei), Java.
Habitat preference
The species is much rarer than risa. No material with precise data has been seen.
Biology.
Piepers & Snellen (1902 [1903]) described and illustrated the larva as squat, light yellowish brown, becoming more orange or red in later instars. It is covered in humps which sweat and produce a clear fluid when touched (see also fig 53D in Yen et al. (2005)). The host plants were Camellia (as Thea; Theaceae) and Symplocos (Symplocaceae).
