Eilema sundakana Draudt
Lithosia brevipennis sandakana Draudt, 1914, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 10: 210.
Diagnosis and taxonomic note
The male is very similar in general appearance to that of Brunia antica Walker, of which brevipennis Walker is a synonym (see Brunia antica Walker), but with a streak of brownish scales subdorsally on the forewing underside, posterior to the anal vein (see Brunia sarawaca Butler stat. rev and Brunia apicalis* Walker comb.n. There is no forewing areole and M2 arises independently from the cell. The genitalia are not typical of Brunia or Eilema, with a narrow, spatulate saccus, long narrow valves with a subapical saccular spur, and a juxta like a gothic arch with ear-like rugose extensions dorsally into the diaphragm. The aedeagus has an apical spur and a vesicawith globular and digitate diverticula, each terminating in a short cornutus; that on the globular diverticulum is much larger with a broad, swollen basal area. Therefore sandakana represents a distinct species.
