Eilema longpala Holloway sp. n.

♂♂ 13-14mm.

This is a dull, pale orange version ofpseudocretacea, also with a dark frons. The male genitalia have the uncus and valves more typical, the former somewhat bulbous, however, and the latter has the valve apex ventrally falcate.The aedeagus has an apical spur as in pseudocretacea, but the vesica is less elongate, rather lobed, with fields of robust, short spines distally on two of the lobes.

Paratypes

3♂♂ as holotype 1♂ BRUNEI: 15m, Telisai, sandy heath forest and Gymnostoma, 3.2.1979 (Lt. Col. M. G. Allen).

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

During the Mulu survey the species was only taken at the type locality, with 71 specimens recorded, but unfortunately not retained. This was an area of disturbed alluvial forest, now reverted to farmland.

The only other specimen is from dry heath forest on white sand.
