Cossedia erateinalis Walker
Cossedia erateinalis Walker, 1865 [1866], List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 34: 1277.
Diagnosis
The male is of distinctive wing shape and facies, the hindwing with a produced and outcurved tornal angle, with darker grey grading into this ‘tail’. The forewing has the Chandica type of pattern, with pale yellow triangles at one-third and two-thirds on the costa and at the centre of the margin, the last with a shallower slope to the posterior.
The more basal costal triangle extends as a narrow fascia from its apex to the dorsum.
Taxonomic Notes
The male illustrated as this species by Kobes (1997: 35) is much darker, the hindwing tornus much less produced.
The costal and marginal yellow markings of the forewings are smaller and closer to the apex of the wing.
It probably represents a distinct species (see below).
Geographical range
Borneo, ?Sumatra.
Habitat preference
The original specimen was taken by A.R. Wallace in Sarawak, probably in the lowlands.
