Diagnosis

The wings of both sexes are pale yellow, with distinctive black markings as illustrated. The black markings are similar to those of the otherwise white Corma fragilis but more broken and restricting the subapical band of ground colour on the forewing.

Taxonomic note

Kishida (1998) has illustrated the various subspecies of phalaenaria, describing three new ones. The Bornean race is coliadoides.

Geographical range

Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam to Sundaland and Philippines.

Habitat preference

Material to hand consists of a male from Ranau in Sabah.

Biology.

The larva was described by Piepers & Snellen (1902 [1903]). The head is light brown. The body is golden yellow as are the three rows of tubercles on each side except those on T2. The primary setae at the apices of the tubercles are stiff, white. The longitudinal stripes between the tubercles are light brown and typical of the genus.

Piepers & Snellen (1902 [1903]) and Robinson et al. (2001) listed Symplocos (Symplocaceae) as the larval host plant.
