Diagnosis

This is a generally grey insect, even the hindwings being pale fawnish grey with a darker border. Many specimens have an oblique black streak through the discal zone of the forewing, usually interrupted near the black discal spot. The underside is paler fawn, all wings with dark grey medial fasciae (narrow) and borders (broad).

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, W. China, Vietnam (Zilli, 1999), Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Philippines.

Habitat preference

The species ranges widely, but never in abundance, from the lowlands to 2600m.

Biology

Gardner (1948a) gave details of the larva, particularly chaetotaxy. The colour is apple green, the body with yellow stripes that are bordered by fine red lines. T2 is slightly tumid dorsally, with a transverse row of six thick black circles each centred by a seta on a white dot. The host-plant was Pterocarya (Juglandaceae).
