Artena rubida Walker
Ophisma rubida Walker, [1863] 1864, J. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 179.
Artena rubida Walker; Holloway, 1976: 29; Kobes, 1985: 32.
Diagnosis
The forewing is a rich dark brown that grades slightly paler and more violet towards the costa; slight fasciation is only apparent in this paler area. The forewing distal margin is distinctly paler, irrorated with mauve.
Taxonomic Note
Zilli & Lourens (2008) described a new species from the Philippines (Luzon, Leyte, Mindanao) related to Artena rubida, A. reggiantii Zilli & Lourens. The record of rubida from the Philippines by Kononenko & Pinratana (2005) was indicated as likely to be of this new species. The facies is close to that of rubida but the genitalia are distinctive, including (compared to rubida) a much longer and more slender dorsal spine to the uncus, a leg-and-foot-shaped costal process (cf. a duck or goose head) to the right valve, in the male and a shorter but slightly wider ductus bursae with a bulge at its distal end in the female.
