Amraica solivagaria Walker stat. rev.
Boarmia solivagaria Walker, 1866, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br.Mus., 35: 1586.
Boarmia recursaria Walker, sensu Barlow, 1982: 132.
Diagnosis
In the male the rufous patches at the base and apex of the forewing contrasting with a pale grey ground are diagnostic. The female is more uniform pale brown, the apical and basal forewing patches less distinct and the post- and antemedial fasciae more finely, clearly delineated with black.
Taxonomic Notes
The Sundanian species is distinguished from A recursaria* (Indian Subregion) by the paler grey, less brown-speckled wings and the more rufous tinge to the forewing patches. The antemedial delimiting the basal patch is more or less straight over its posterior half, but in recursaria there is a sharp zig-zag associated with the anal vein. In the male genitalia (compared with the holotype of fortissima) the juxta is apically more oval, paddle-shaped, less oblong, and the saccular process is four fifths the length of the valve rather than two thirds.
A. debrunnescens Prout stat. n. (New Guinea) may best be treated as a distinct taxon. The saccular process of the valve extends almost to its apex, and the valve itself is rather narrow. The complex of mainland Asian species requires further analysis: A. ponderata Felder may be distinct (see above); the status of ferrolavata Walker (India), placed as a synonym of A recursaria* by Sato (1981b), needs investigation. The observations of Sato (in press) on the genitalic variation exhibited by the complex indicate that the facies differences between Indian and Sundanian material may be definitive, rather than the genitalic ones.
Geographical Range
Sundaland, Sulawesi.
Habitat Preference
This is a lowland forest species, showing during the Mulu survey some preference for alluvial forest and forest on limestone.
