Epigrypera Hampson

Genus Details

Type species: eriogona Hampson, Borneo.

This small genus is probably allied to Corgatha, but the species are slightly more robust, with narrower forewings that have an obtuse angle in the centre of the distal margin. The fasciation is restricted to a transverse pale postmedial on the forewing and an obscurely darker and irregular one on the hindwing. The forewing also has a dark triangular mark in the discal area. The area marginal to the forewing postmedial is darker than the rest of the wing and contains an irregular and pale zigzag, obscure in some specimens.

The male genitalia are similar to those of typical Corgatha.

The female genitalia have relatively robust apodemes to the ovipositor lobes, and those of the eighth segment are moderate, and are not associated with pockets. The ostium is set within the eighth segment as in Corgatha and has an undulating margin to the ventral lip. The ductus bursae is moderate, uniformly sclerotised. The corpus bursae is pyriform but elongate, with a long, sinuous neck section. The ductus seminalis arises basally from this, but it shows no significant coiling.

The genus consists of the type species below and E. argenticincta Hampson (Peninsular Malaysia).
