Corma Walker

Genus Details

Type species: obscurata Walker = fragilis Walker.

Synonym: Scotopais Hering (type species tristis Mell, N. Kuangtung).

All species have a white ground colour with dark grey to black markings and borders. The forewing border is broken by white patches, often segregating an oblique and irregular antemedial band of the dark colour. There is also a medial band on the forewing that is interrupted centrally by the ground colour in many species. These markings are generally similar to those in typical Chalcosia Hübner species, though C. maculata Hampson (N. India, China, Vietnam) and C. yazakii Kishida & Endo (Sulawesi) have wings that are predominantly blackish, but spotted or reticulated with pale grey. The antennae are long, those of the male bipectinate.

In the male abdomen of the type species the eighth segment is unmodified. The tegumen has prominent spines centrally on each side, possibly homologous with those in Cyclosia. The valves are large, ovate, and finely pleated over the costal half. The inner margin of the sacculus is sclerotised and bears a thorn-like process towards its distal end. The aedeagus is small, straight, tapering slightly, with no ornamentation.

Most species occur in the Himalaya and Indochina, the exceptions being fragilis and yazakii.
