Ugia serrilinea Hampson
Ugia serrilinea Hampson, 1926, Descr. Gen. Spec. Noctuinae, p. 440.
Ugia serrilinea Hampson; Holloway, 1976: 38.
Diagnosis
The postmedials are much less oblique than in other members of the genus, that of the hindwing being obscure.
The fasciae basal to the forewing postmedial are finely zig-zagged, and the submarginal markings lack the stepping typical of the genus.
Taxonomic Notes
The species is atypical of Ugia in facies as just described, but also the male antennae are fasciculate.
The male eighth sternite bears a massive corema that has a pair of small lateral lobes basally.
The male genitalia have a strong paratergal sclerite.
The valves lack a costal process and have a prominent corema.
The female genitalia have the ostium between the seventh and eighth segments and associated with the latter by a simple postvaginal plate.
The ductus is narrower than the ostium, unsclerotised, just longer than the seventh segment.
The neck of the corpus bursae is set asymmetrically on it and is long, corrugated, scobinate, protruding basally beyond the junction with the ductus as a slight appendix that leads to the ductus seminalis.
Distally there is an ovate portion, more lightly scobinate, with a signum at its apex consisting of a small spine on a broader base.
The species resembles Avittonia Hampson (p. 398) in many of these abdominal features.
Geographical range
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Thailand (VK), Sulawesi.
Habitat preference
Most records are from lowland forest including heath forest, but a few specimens were taken at 1000m on G. Mulu and singletons at 1500m and 1930m on G. Kinabalu.
