Tripteridia dinosia Prout comb. n.
Eupithecia dinosia Prout, 1926, Sarawak Mus. J., 3:183.
Micromia (Prosthetopteryx) chlaenistes Prout, 1932: 63, syn. n.
Micromia chlaenistes Prout; Holloway, 1976: 67.
Diagnosis
The forewings are patterned in black and vinous grey, usually with the zone basal to the antemedial conspicuously darker than the rest of the wings. The postmedial is irregularly angled, separated by a pale band from an irregular quadrilateral of darker grey based on the costa. The female hindwings are dark grey, those of the male much paler, broadly whitish in the zone of the subdorsal cleft.
Taxonomic Notes
Prout (1932c) surmised that chlaenistes might represent the male of dinosia: the accumulation of further material supports this. In general facies and male secondary sexual characters the species resembles T. scotochlaena Prout comb. n. from New Guinea.
Geographical Range
Borneo.
Habitat Preference
The species has been recorded from several Bornean mountains (G. Kinabalu, G. Murud, G. Mulu, Bukit Retak) infrequently over an altitude range of 1465m to 2600m.
