Tinolius sundensis Hampson

Diagnosis

The forewings are distinctive ochreous brown-grey with white spots; the hindwings have a more rosy tinge.

Taxonomic note

T. sundensis and *T. quadrimaculatus *Walker (Indian Subregion to S.E. Asian peninsula) are very closely related. Males of *sundensis *have a deeper, shorter uncus and a larger bifid (rather than triangular) distal flap to the valve. Females have the ostium in a slightly more pronounced, deeper cleft, with a more definite triangular pocket just posterior to the cleft.

Geographical range

Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Pulo Laut, Sulawesi.

Habitat preference

The only Bornean material seen is from Pulo Laut, a low-lying island at the south-east of Borneo; the species may favour a climate with a more pronounced dry season.
