Thyrassia bidensis Kaye
Acutia bidensis Kaye, 1919, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (9), 4: 90.
Diagnosis
The narrow wings are dark brown with translucent areas as illustrated: two medially and one subapically, all crossed by dark veins, in the forewings; one taking up the basal two thirds of the hindwing. There is a longitudinal yellow marking over the base of the forewing. The antennae have a white zone subapically, dorsally. There is some resemblance to syntomine arctiines (Holloway, 1988), but none of these has two central patches on the forewing combined with a single distal one.
Taxonomic note
The species was transferred from the Arctiidae (now Erebidae: Arctiinae) to Zygaenidae by Holloway (1988: 6).
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
There are two specimens from Bidi and one from Kuching in the lowlands of Sarawak, and one without precise data from “S.E. Borneo”.
