Thumatha orientalis Holloway sp. n.
♂♂ 5-6mm. The facies is typical of the genus and in particular of the Australian species fuscescens. The general coloration is dark reddish brown. The genitalia have a less strongly curved margin to the sacculus than fuscescens, the process of which is shorter and more basal in position. The saccus tapers more. In the aedeagus vesica there is a mass of small spines rather than the groupings of three to four and two large ones in fuscescens. A species from Java (slide 5125) has similar cornuti tofuscescens, whereas a specimen from Madagascar (slide 5122) has just two separate, large cornuti. All these specimens were in the BMNH series of fuscescens, which thus appears to be a species complex.
