Thalassodes curiosa Swinhoe; Holloway, 1976: 62.
Diagnosis
This is a rather translucent species, with rather irregular dentate fasciae appearing darker than the ground colour, perhaps representing a more extreme development of the marking of T. opalinoides.
Taxonomic Notes
This species is tentatively associated with true Thalassodes, though it lacks red marginal markings and genitalic coremata and other features such as the oblique structure on the valve.
The socii are narrow and the vinculum is cruciform.
There is a scobinate semicircular flap on the sacculus and a triangular process just ventral to the valve transtilla.
This is oblong in material from the S. Moluccas: also the saccular lobe is absent and the anellus bears coarse spines in each side.
The species is thus somewhat intermediate between Thalassodes and the next genus.
Geographical range
N.E. Himalaya, Sundaland, Sulawesi, S. Moluccas.
Habitat preference
The species is frequent in the upper montane forest zone, ranging from 1600m to almost 2000m.
