Diagnosis
The species is a rather deep, dull, brownish yellow with a reddish abdomen and a reddish suffusion to the forewing underside, particularly strong in the male. The male is only lightly marked in black, the female more so, with black spots much as in hosei though lacking them antemedially on the costa and having the postmedial defined by a sinuous brown shaded band. Attribution of these males (the holotype is female) is tentative; W. Thomas (pers. comm.) predicts that the male should resemble the female as in related taxa.
Taxonomic notes
The species is allied to roseata Rothschild from Java, the males of roseata resembling borneensis females in facies; both differ from S. semperi Rothschild (Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia) in male genitalia; borneensis differs from roseata in the male genitalia where the valve is broadly bilobed apically rather than narrowly bilobed. In facies the female of borneensis resembles the male of roseata, but females of the latter are unknown.

Habitat preference
The species is only known from G. Kinabalu, at altitudes from 1200m to 2000m.
