Diagnosis

The forewing pattern, especially the subbasal orange and purple markings, renders this species unmistakable.

Geographical range

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat preference

The species is infrequent in mixed dipterocarp forest but was also taken singly in kerangas and lower montane forest during the Mulu survey.

Taxonomic Note

Schintlmeister (1993: 133) described a second species, Rodneya cernyi Schintlmeister, from Palawan and Luzon in the Philippines. He also (S & P, 2007) recorded cernyi in S. Laos and Thailand and extended the range of caudata generally into the southern part of the S.E. Asian peninsula.
